The Muscle of Flour AKA Gluten

A couple of weeks ago, some friends and I tried to attend the Gluten Free Expo that was taking place in Vancouver. We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to learn about the up and coming ‘gluten-free’ products we could offer future clients. However, after waiting in line for an hour and a half, we were told we only had another hour and a half to go! So, we decided to get a refund and some brunch. According to the apology email, we were sent a couple of days later, over 20,000 people tried to attend this particular expo! What should we take away from this?

So Far Not a Happy New Year

Is it just me or is everyone sick right now? Are we thatstressed out during the holidays that are immune systems become more susceptible to these nasty bugs? Or maybe it’s because we’ve been squished together in shopping malls and at family functions allowing germs to easily jump ship? Whatever the case may be everyone is sick! The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

*Spoiler Alert* Remember Dorothy’s disappointment when she finally got to meet the ‘wonderful’ Wizard of Oz? Well, Dr. Oz is falling down the same rabbit hole...different children’s story, but you get the idea. Earlier this year Dr. Oz made a berry premature claim by stating that raspberry ketones are “the number 1 miracle in a bottle to burn your fat.” So, where did this claim come from?

In August Lance Armstrong stopped fighting the charges the antidoping agency brought against him and in October was stripped of his 7 Tour de France titles. And today it was announced that Armstrong would resign from his cancer-fighting charity Livestrong. My One & Only Restaurant Review

As you know, I don’t usually get into recipe or restaurant reviews but I thought I would make an exception for a restaurant I went to last week with some friends. I guess you could also say it would be a good restaurant to try out on Halloween, but it would also be appropriate any time of the year. Speaking of Halloween, can you believe it’s November next week? Wow! Where did October go?

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Don’t you just love this holiday? Or maybe it’s just me… So, how many people were blaming the turkey last night as they were falling asleep on the couch? Rotten Egg #7 - Rice

Happy September Everyone! I hope you all had a great summer and are somewhat looking forward to getting back to reality. Health At Every Size

Food. How can I put into words how much I appreciate and love food? To have someone prepare food for you is such a wonderful treat, to share that food with people you love is a priceless experience and it’s magical to see how many different ways the same vegetable can be prepared. However, I am so disheartened when I hear stories of people struggling with eating disorders. And now there’s new research to suggest that middle-aged and older women are suffering from body dissatisfaction…this is not a young persons disorder anymore! What is wrong with our society? Here’s a new perspective on dieting.

Taking Local to the Next Level

I buy most of my produce from Kins Farm Market because I believe they represent the next best thing to buying produce straight from a local farmer. Plus their story is inspirational! Twenty-two years ago when the Leung family moved to Vancouver they opened an 8-foot produce stand on Granville Island and now they are running a produce empire with 26 stores. But lately I’ve been getting frustrated with Kins because their lack of local produce has become apparent. So, I took local to the next level last weekend by taking a drive to Emma-Lea Farms.
